2 days in Rome – An easy Rome itinerary for your first visit of the Eternal City

Are you visiting Rome for the first time and you only have few days to see everything? We are here to help you through your holiday!
Rome is one of the most wonderful cities and it’s full of monuments, historical landmarks, museums, churches and villas, here you are some tips that will make your trip easier.

First of all the best way to see Rome’s beauties from our apartments is mainly on foot and by subway; remember to purchase tickets prior to boarding from tobacco shops, newspaper stands or kiosks at the metro and train stations. Then, just wear your best walking shoes and you’re ready for your first day.

Day one

Take the Metro A, red line, from San Giovanni to Piazzale Flaminio, direction Battistini.
From Piazzale Flaminio you can see the popular twin churches of Piazza del Popolo, which are the church of Maria in Montesanto and the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli. Then just take the main street of the city centre, Via del Corso, which is also a popular shopping district. Via dei Condotti is the street leading into the Spanish Steps or Piazza di Spagna: climb the stairs to admire the Trinità dei Monti church and don’t forget to see the beautiful Bernini’s ship-shaped fountain! The Trevi’s Fountain is only a few minutes far from the Spanish Steps. Don’t forget to throw a coin in the fountain in order to return to Rome, as legend says!
Now it’s time to cross Via del Corso again to see the beautiful Pantheon, take your time to admire it from the inside! Its oculus in the dome is open to the sky so that the sunlight can filter in. Tired? We have almost finished our first day tour! As a matter of fact, Piazza Navona is just a few steps far: the Bernini’s Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi and the church of Sant’Agnese in Agone by Borromini will leave you speechless.
And now… it’s time to relax! Take an Aperitif at Campo de’ Fiori and then just have dinner at Trastevere. The streetcar line 3 will bring you back at San Giovanni!

Day two

Time to make choices! What would you like to see from the inside, the Colosseum or the Vatican? We’ll help you with the purchase of your tickets so that you can avoid all the lines!

From our apartments just walk a few minutes to see the Basilica of Saint John in Lateran and the Holy Stairs. From there you can then easily walk to the Colosseum, Forums and Palatine; just take Via di San Giovanni in Laterano and you’ll be only 10 minutes far from them! If you feel you have time just take some minutes to admire the beautiful San Clemente Church. Then just have a quick lunch at Monti, a popular bohemian neighborhood of Rome, and take the Metro to reach Ottaviano to see the Vatican. Do you still have some time left? Just south of the Vatican stands Castel Sant’Angelo! A nice place to conclude your travel is having lunch at Borgo Pio!
