The exhibition “Impressionists and Moderns. Masterpieces from the Phillips Collection in Washington” presents sixty-two paintings from the first American museum of modern art. On the eve of its hundredth anniversary, the museum has organized a major traveling exhibition during which for the first time in Rome you will have the chance to see a part of its rich collection.
This extraordinary exhibition dedicated to European and American painting is organized chronologically, reflecting the great cultural currents that have passed through the nineteenth and twentieth century until after World War II.
Impressionists and Moderns begins with the works of great artists who in the early nineteenth century have revolutionized European painting from Goya to Ingres, Delacroix, Courbet and Manet, put into dialogue with those of the masters of French as Cezanne, Degas, Van Gogh, Monet and Sisley. A prominent place is up to the modern masters who shaped the artistic vision of the twentieth century, including Bonnard, Braque, Gris, Kandinsky, Kokoschka, Matisse, Modigliani, Picasso, Soutine and Vuillard, next to the American Arthur Dove and Georgia O’Keeffe.
Discover the fundamental works of major American and European artists of the post-war period as De Stael, Diebenkorn, Gottlieb, Rothko, Guston and will be for the visitor an intense and completely new experience.
The exhibition Impressionists and Moderns brings together the works of the greatest modern masters and proves “that art is a universal language”, meant to be shared and enjoyed by audiences around the world.
